Sometimes, drug use starts out casually—maybe at a party or with friends. But for some people, what begins as occasional use can become more frequent. Over time, it may take more of the drug to feel the same effects, and eventually, you might find yourself needing it just to feel “okay.”
Some common signs that drug use may have turned into addiction include:
- Feeling the need to use regularly, even daily or more than once a day
- Strong cravings that are hard to ignore
- Needing more of the drug to get the same high
- Making sure you always have some on hand
- Struggling to keep up with responsibilities at work, school, or home
- Doing things you normally wouldn’t to get the drug, like borrowing or stealing
- Spending more time and energy thinking about, getting, and using the drug
- Having withdrawal symptoms when you don’t use
- Trying to quit, but finding it really difficult
If some of these sound familiar, it might be time to reach out for support.
